Protests are used every day by the citizens of the United States. Protests are very common because it is a given right to protest, which is stated in the first amendment of the U.S Constitution. I believe the first thing that goes towards an effective protest is organization. The people of the protest need to know where they are able to protest and what they are allowed to do while protesting. If there is bad organization then then the people can be considered trespassing on other property. Also if there is awful organization and no control over the protesters, they may get out of control and vandalize the areas around them. If this vandalism occurs, the protest will be viewed as a riot. The result then is nothing is accomplished and the protesters lose potential followers.
People use protests to voice their opinion to the public and to other private groups of people. People gain supporters so the larger group there is, the better chance whoever they are coming at sees their side of the situation. I believe the AIDS activists did everything they could to get what they wanted. They used protests outside government building to voice their opinion on quicker drug testing. They went on major television stations to get the word out of the epidemic going on in the United States. They made their activists become very knowledgeable of the AIDS disease so when the talked, they seems well informed and very smart to the citizens of the United States and the government.
